Short horror joys
The dead have come to the horror genre from the start. Ghosts, vampires, and zombies are the main protagonists of all-time horror. We’ve seen a return of the zombie franchise in the blockbuster pool and the intellectual type of classic dramas set in zombie environments. George Romero is still at it of course, with plans to please the genre fans for years to come. There’s been some return of vampires, with the best attempts by Japanese masters.
But there is a different kind of horror emerging on the scene – the short horror film with a different type of dead. These films receive more and more critical support and have acquired strong fan following with some movies achieving cult status. Short horror is different since it doesn’t require the elaborateness of blockbuster crowd-pleasers that look great but have no or little substance to them except cheesy predictable messages. A short film like Living With The Dead is a different story altogether. It aims to please no big money producers or the faceless average theatre goers. It’s just a short little piece about a guy living next to another guy different from him in the mere fact that he is no longer alive. Check this one out. It’s a fun little piece.
